Ask yourself what you should be working on? You know what it is because your coach has told you over and over again. Your coach has also given you excercises/drills to help in fixing the problem. If you can swing it, try to get on snow some night this week and work on that skill. Do the drills first then try to work it into your skiing for two hours. If you actually do this instead of hitting the half pipe your skiing will improve.

Get the edge on the competition

The forcast for this weekend is "Cold"! With this in mind let's take a good look at those edges. Your Slalom skis should be tuned with a base of .5 and a side of 3 degrees. Make sure that you are cutting metal when you tune. Too many of you are simply running a stone or file without removing sidewall first. When you tune like this you actually change the bevel and dull the edge. It looks like the wax will be Start Green, CH4, or CH6 which ever you have. These waxes are so hard that they need to be scraped and brushed completely while inside the building. Watch the weather closely and look for an email late this week for final suggestions on wax.

Tactics vs skills

Now that the racing season has begun we want to remind you about the importance of free skiing on your own. When we train gates in the AM we are working on how to choose and ski the best possible line based on your ability or skills. When you ski with a coach doing drills you are working on improving your skills so you can ski the faster line. Well, now that we have entered the competition phase of the season there is less time alocated for drills. This means that you need to continue to work on your own issues any time you can in addition to the time spent on these issues during the training day. Where do you find the time? In lots of places! How about on the way to the training course? How about during 20 min of your one hour lunch break? How about during the afternoon session with your coach and how about really paying attention? How about from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM after training has ended? Bottom line is this. You are responsible for continuing to improve your skiing by doing just that. Skiing but with a purpose to continue to improve!

Let the racing begin!

This weekend we travel to Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain to begin the J3 racing schedule.
